I’ve been encouraged to post on Substack for years. I tried it again recently, and somehow it felt worse than the last time.
I don’t entirely trust myself to remain untouched by the incentive structure surrounding me. The engagement metrics, the comments, the awareness of which posts do “well”…the risk of it shaping my writing in ways I might never notice.
I want a little quiet corner of the internet instead. Somewhere my mind can wander freely. Somewhere nobody is rewarding me for becoming any particular version of myself.
